
If the time has come to start to think about weaning your little one, there will be lots of things you are worried about. Well, in conjunction with Beaba, we will try to make starting the journey a little easier. They have a range of steamers and blenders to help you prepare tasty meals at home ranging from the Babycook Original right through to their top of the range Babycook Neo as well as their very own cookbook with a huge choice of recipes, some of which we have for you below!
Starting simply with foods suitable from 4-6 months, here are a couple of suggestions:
Apricot, Apple & Peach Puree (Suitable from 6 months)
MAKES 4 SERVINGS / PREPARE 5 MINS / COOK 15 MINS
INGREDIENTS
1/2 cup dried apricots
1 apple
1 peach
½ tsp cinnamon
INSTRUCTIONS
Add all of the ingredients to the steaming basket and fill the water reservoir to level 2. Select steam cook. Once steamed, carefully open the lid and remove the steamer basket. Tip the contents of the steam basket into the blending bowl. Blitz to purée to your baby’s preferred texture.
Butternut Squash & Sakmon Puree (Suitable from 6 months)
MAKES 4 SERVINGS / PREPARE 10 MINS / COOK 15 MINS
INGREDIENTS
1 cup/150g chopped butternut squash
100g salmon, chopped into cubes
A handful of parsley, chopped
1 tsp minced garlic
¼ tsp black pepper
INSTRUCTIONS
Add the butternut squash, salmon and garlic to the steaming basket and fill the water reservoir to level 2. Select steam cook. Once steamed, carefully open the lid and remove the steamer basket. Tip the contents of the steam basket into the blending bowl. Leave the water at the bottom of the steam basket as this has so much flavour! Add the parsley and black pepper. Blitz to purée to your babies preferred texture.
When they are ready to try some different tastes, these are suitable from 7 months to 12 months:
Coconut Fish Curry (Suitable from 8 months)
MAKES 4 SERVINGS / PREPARE 10 MINS / COOK 30 MINS
INGREDIENTS
1 cup/200g basmati rice, rinsed and drained
300g cod fillets, cut into chunks
1 onion, finely diced
1 tbsp minced garlic
1 tbsp minced ginger
1 heaped tsp garam masala
1 tsp turmeric
1 tsp ground coriander
½ tin full fat coconut milk
½ cup/120ml tomato passata or use 1/2 tin chopped tomatoes
A handful of chopped coriander
½ lemon
INSTRUCTIONS
First add the basmati rice to the Beaba Babycook® Pasta/Rice cooker insert along with 3/4 cup/180ml of water. Fill the water reservoir to water level 3. Steam cook. Once steamed, set aside the rice. Then add the cod, onion, garlic, ginger, garam masala, turmeric, ground coriander, coconut milk and tomato passata to the steam basket of the Beaba Babycook®. Stir gently to combine. Fill the steamer reservoir with water to level 3 and steam for 15 minutes. Once steamed, carefully open the lid and remove the steamer basket. Transfer to a pan and add the liquid from the blending bowl. Squeeze over the lemon juice and sprinkle over the chopped coriander before serving. Serve with the basmati rice or blend to your babies proffered texture.
Tuna & Sweet Potato Fishcakes (Suitable from 8 months)
MAKES 10 FISHCAKES / PREPARE 10 MINS / COOK 25 MINS
INGREDIENTS
1 large sweet potato, peeled and cut into cubes
200g tuna
A large handful of chopped spinach
2 tbsp of finely chopped dill A handful of chopped parsley
½ tsp pepper
½ cup breadcrumbs
2 tbsp olive oil
INSTRUCTIONS
First add the sweet potato, tuna, and spinach to the steaming basket. Fill the water reservoir to water level 3 and steam cook. Once steamed, carefully open the lid. Discard the water at the bottom of the blending bowl and then tip the steamed veggies and fish into the blending bowl. Add the dill, parsley, and pepper. Pulse to combine. Once the mixture is cool enough to handle, scoop out about 2 tablespoons of the mixture with a spoon and combine into balls. Place the balls in the breadcrumbs and press down a little to form fish cakes. Heat the oil in a large pan over a medium heat and cook each fish cake for 2-3 minutes on each side.
