As we all start digging out our winter coats, bulky jumpers and fur lined boots, we’ve been hearing a lot about the hygge lifestyle trend here at Uber Kids.
There’s been a difference in opinion amongst the team on how to even say this unusual Danish term. Hig-gy, Hi-gi, Hug-ga, Hi-guh – they’ve all been uttered from the mouths of various team members. But after much search-engine digging, we stand corrected and now (with some exceptions) pronounce it properly – Hoo-gah!
But, what’s it all about?
It’s all very well and good being able to say hygge, but what is it? In a nutshell, it encompasses all things warm, cosy and comfortable. Think thick woolly socks and snuggly pyjamas in front of an open fire or enjoying a hot chocolate under a blanket with your favourite book. Basically, it’s all about enjoying life’s simple pleasures. Sounds pretty good, right?
So, how can you ‘hygge’ your family’s life?
Hygge is also all about togetherness, so if you want to lead a more hygge life, get your family together. Snuggle up on the sofa under a blanket and watch a film together. Dig out a board game and spend an evening playing as a family. Get crafty and create something. Or, why not get outdoors and go for a long walk with family and friends on a crisp autumn day.
Food’s an important part of hygge with homemade treats, comfort food and hot drinks at the centre. Encourage your kids to put their mobile phones and tablets down and spend an afternoon baking some family favourites together, like brownies, cakes and muffins.
Hygge lifestyle all year round
As much as the feeling of cosiness is a huge part of hygge, it can still be practised all year long. In the summer, you could pack a picnic and head to your local park with your family. Throw a BBQ with friends in your garden – they’re both as hygge as hibernating indoors in the winter.
As long as you’re enjoying the simple things that life has to offer and spending time with your nearest and dearest, you’re well on the way to a hygge life!
